THE CAUSE
2021

HBCUs Band Together is a scholarship initiative created by The Webber Foundation to bring together those who love and seek to support HBCU’s, HBCU Bands and their band members; while celebrating the talent, contribution and impact of HBCU marching bands on the culture, and the roles they play in educating aspiring musicians and developing future leaders.
With the impact of COVID-19 changing the landscape of sporting events and other major public gatherings where HBCU Bands would be invited to perform and showcase their talents - this initiative will help support HBCU Bands with scholarship dollars for its students and programs. This authentic community cause engagement program will provide sponsors and community organizations a platform seeking to show their support for HBCU’s, African American and minority communities.

Our Goals:
-
Create another source of scholarship activation for HBCU marching bands during and after the Coronavirus pandemic.
-
Share the stories of and elevate the awareness and community support for HBCU’s, HBCU marching bands, its band members, and our partners who support them.

Chef D.Arthur is a Memphis native who has catered events all over the country, serving at the request of high profile executives, political leaders, varying NBA players, and entertainers. He has always had a love for food and culinary arts.
Chef D.Arthur graduated from the University of Memphis in 2007 with a Bachelors of Arts. From there, he had a very brief tenure at the International Culinary School at the Art Institute in Atlanta. He went on to get his master’s degree in Higher Education from Louisiana State University.
After working in education at the University of Memphis then at Regional One Health, he made a conscious decision to honor his true calling to become a chef. With very little experience or training, Chef D. started D.Arthur's Catering. “I realized that I had to follow my passion and make it my provision. I stepped out on faith. The energy expended has netted some successes that I am very proud of. I am immensely grateful for the love support of my family and friends.” He is primarily self-taught with his natural ability being honed by the cooks in his family, his chef community, and his natural love for food.
Chef D. has been featured in Essence, Rolling Stone, The Commercial Appeal, The Daily Memphian, Edible Memphis, Soul Society, Voyage ATL, and many other publications and podcasts. In 2021, Chef D.Arthur was honored by his alma mater in The University of Memphis Magazine for his journey as a culinary artist. Most notably, Chef D. competed on Food Network’s hit series, Chopped.
As owner of D.Arthur’s Catering, Chef D. Arthur specializes in putting a unique twist on some of your favorite comfort dishes. Some of his signature dishes are Collard Green Eggrolls, Chicken Lasagna Cupcakes, Oxtail Empanadas, Curry Lobster & Pan Fried Grit Cakes.
